Tudor Linenfold Panel
The two panels, with elaborately scrolled decoration – to imitate the folds of stacked linen – set within a moulded framework. The top and bottom rails, which retain the original tenons.
These tenons, together with tell-tale marks to the back, would suggest this was made as a front of a small chest.
English, circa 1540.
