A Charles I Oak Table with Enclosed Cupboard

A rare type of Charles I table, or cupboard. The well patinated boarded top, over a small panelled door. The frame, decorated with run mouldings. The corner pieces extending down into a squat balluster leg, which are joined by stretchers. It is difficult to work out whether this was merely intended as a side table for displaying pewter, or perhaps serving food, which could then be stored in the cupboard below. The whole piece is of a terrific, untouched colour, which extends to a beautiful dry surface on the back and undersides.

English, circa 1630

Width 43.5 inches, depth 20.75 inches, height 31.75 inches.

Provenence - the collection of Louis Tiger, New York, a renowned and distinguished connoisseur
