A Fine and Rare Charles I Oak Wall Cupboard
Having a small central panel door, decorated with a simple pyramid-shaped boss, and retaining the original fine iron butterfly hinges, and shaped door pull. Flanked by two plain panels, set into a run-moulded frame.
Below is a long single drawer, with a raised moulding around the edge, and decorated with the same raised bosses as the cupboard door.
The lovely, rich colour and beautiful proportions make this one of the finest little cupboards I have seen.
Provenance – Clive Sherwood Collection, sold Sotheby’s 2003.
Width 33 inches, depth 8 inches, height 16.5 inches.
