A Highly Impressive Knole Sofa

The sofa, having a padded back, with adjustable hinged ends, retained by traditional covered “pegs”, upholstered in a faded salmon velvet, with bullion thread braid and tassels.

The upholstery has that much sought after faded “elegance” look, which goes so well with early oak furniture. We are reluctant to do anything to the covering as upholstery is a very personal decision, but we would suggest a suitable upholsterer and offer our advice if sought.

English, circa 1900.

Provenance – removed from Lumley Castle, County Durham, the home of the Earl of Scarborough. Sold at the house sale conducted by Henry Spencer & Sons in 1976.

Width 78 inches, depth 37 inches, height 36 inches.

Ref 149
