A James I Oak Table

The quintessential joined oak refectory table. The thick two-plank top, with cleated ends, supported on heavy cup and cover turned legs. The top rail, with integral corner brackets, is carved with a symmetrical gouge or nulled design. The two end rails have the same shaped brackets, which give a most pleasing line, whilst the back rail is plain. The legs terminate in square blocks, which are joined by heavy stretchers, the corners of which have 18th century iron reinforcement brackets.

The table has “all the right wear in all the right places”, with an outstanding colour and patina.

English, probably Dorset, circa 1620.

Length 92 inches, width 32 inches, height 33 inches.
