Oil on Copper Panel Lord Cardross, born June 12th, 1742

A most interesting 18^thcentury portrait of David Stuart, Lord Cardross, the eldest son of Henry David, Earl of Buchan, on his 21^stbirthday, in 1763. 

Two pictures exist of the sitter, one painted by William Hoare – a famous Bath portrait painter, who often used copper to paint on – and this example, painted by “Mr Morris of the City of Bath”. 

A lovely picture, which is framed in the most exquisitely carved and gilded 18^thcentury “Carlo Marratta” frame.
