A Superb Elizabethan Oak Joint Stool
The top, with a fine double-moulded edge, above intricately moulded and shaped rails. The legs are elaborately and skillfully turned, with a “reeded” edge on all the square outside horizontal edges, whilst the internal corners have a deep chamfer.
A fine and unusual stool, from a very skilled workshop. A similar period refectory table, probably from the same workshop, was sold in Bonhams Oak Sale, 28th September 2016, lot 242, illustrated for comparison.
