Superb Small George II Oak Clothes Press

A beautiful piece of Welsh furniture, the upper doors with flattened fielded arch panels, concealing an ingenious secret locking device. The base, with its four arched panels above three small drawers, which again are locked by the same secret device, over two larger drawers which sit on a heavy base moulding with integral ogee bracket feet.

The joiner spared no expense on his use of oak, backboards, topboards, drawer linings are all made from the typical slow-growing oak found on the west side of England.

Wonderful nutty brown colour and original deep patina.

Caernarfonshire (Wales), circa 1740-60.

Width 53 inches, height 76 inches, depth 21.5 inches.
